![]() In Sheriff of Nottingham, players will not only be able to experience Nottingham as a merchant of the city, but each turn one player will step into the shoes of the Sheriff himself. Should you play it safe with legal goods and make a profit, or risk it all by sneaking in illicit goods? Be mindful, though, as the Sheriff always has his eyes out for liars and tricksters and if he catches one, he very well may confiscate those goods for himself! ![]() ![]() However, players must first get their goods through the city gate, which is under the watch of the Sheriff of Nottingham. If you don’t mind lying to your friends and want a good intro game, then Yes, you should Buy This Game.Prince John is coming to Nottingham! Players, in the role of merchants, see this as an opportunity to make quick profits by selling goods in the bustling city during the Prince's visit. This is an emotionally engaging game, and emotions make things memorable and worthwhile. I like that my heart gets pumping when its a big haul that I’m trying to bring in and the Sheriff is staring into my soul trying to figure out if I’m lying or not. I like that I can hide a valuable good in with my common goods and it may go unnoticed. Maybe it’s because I loved Robin Hood growing up (the Disney one with the fox), but this game’s theme is something I love! I love feeling like I am being sneaky and getting stuff in past the Sheriff (who is not someone anyone likes anyways). If you only game with people that are upright and honest and cannot tell a lie even for the sake of a game, this probably isn’t a great game to go with. Those are $40 well spent if you have a good group that you can play this with (plays 3-6 players). However, with the release of the second version coming out on June 16, it is back on the market for only $40 on Amazon. Sheriff of Nottingham was out of print for a while making it completely inaccessible unless you bought second hand. This game plays tricks in my mind like no other game I’ve ever played. You are always wondering if it is worth inspecting if you’re only going to lose money in the process. While playing the Sheriff, you always questions what people’s intentions are. But if I am bringing in all legal goods and I offer a bribe might make the Sheriff inspect my bag and have to pay me. Offering to bribe the Sheriff tips them off that you may have contraband goods in your bag. I don’t think I’ve ever played another game quite like Sheriff of Nottingham. (Note: we are all happy and healthy over here!) 2 - Freshness Sheriff of Nottingham is one of the staples in our home, even though it may have caused a little bit of contention in a few relationships. Even after this stretch, however, we have continued to pull it off the shelf consistently enough for me to give this game the play count pip. We’re talking about playing this game multiple times a month for six months or so. I went through a phase where I played this game a lot. To inspect or not to inspect? That is the question… 1 - Play Count You may also bribe the Sheriff to leave your bag un-inspected and move on to another persons bag. If you are lying about what you are bringing in, you pay the Sheriff. The Sheriff can inspect your goods to see if you’re lying. You are allowed to bring in one good of any number at a time (4 apples, 3 chickens, etc.). Each player then puts their selected good/goods into their bag and informs the Sheriff of what they are bringing into the city. Each other player has a chance to exchange cards in their hand at the market in preparation to move their goods. Each round, the person acting as the Sheriff rotates. Sheriff of Nottingham is a simple game where you are trying to bring in the most valuable goods into the city of Nottingham. More bang for your buck! How to Play Sheriff of Nottingham Version two of this game that is on the market now comes with the expansion built in. ![]() NOTE: I have only played the first version of this game, not the second or the expansion.
